Mount Rinjani is one of the most famous sites in Lombok is Mount Runjani, an active volcano on the island. It is the second highest volcano of those in Indonesia, with only Mount Kerinci on Sumatra being higher. Mount Runjani first erupted in 1847, and its most recent eruption was in May, 2009. Within the crater, also called a caldera, is a lake, named Segara Anak, which means "Child of the Sea". The lake is approximately 200m deep, and contains hot springs within it. The recent eruptions which have taken place have formed a small cone in the center of the lake. The lava from this cone has been flowing into the crater lake in which it sits. This cone has been named Mount Barujari which means "New Finger".
